Providing broadband wireless mobile communications to connect people, contents, clouds and things through the future Internet is a major objective of the Digital Agenda for Europe at the horizon of 2020. The current growth of the mobile data traffic of portable devices and machine-to-machine communications dramatically challenges the 4G cellular networks. MiWaveS will demonstrate how low-cost or advanced millimeter-wave (mmW) technologies can provide multi-Gigabits per second access to mobile users and contribute to sustain the traffic growth. Hence, spectrum flexibility and the exploitation of the available mmW spectrum will be key strategies to build high-throughput and low latency infrastructures for next generation heterogeneous mobile networks. MiWaveS will investigate and demonstrate key enabling technologies and functionalities supporting the integration of mmW small cells in future heterogeneous networks, particularly at the level of networking functions and algorithms, and integrated radio and antenna technologies. MiWaveS is an industry-driven large-scale integrating project bringing together world-leading European industries and researchers in the domain of wireless communications. It intends to help European ICT industry to be at the forefront of innovation and R&D on key enabling technologies for future broadband mobile networks and secure a competitive position on this strategic market. One of the objectives of the MiWaves project is to assess the user exposure in representative exposure scenarios and minimize the antenna / body coupling in the 60-GHz band.
