The integration of 60–GHz technologies into emerging heterogeneous fifth-generation (5G) cellular networks is foreseen in coming years. 5G systems operating at millimeter waves will constitute a new source of exposure (frequencies, usages, near-field exposure, dosimetric quantities) leading to the need for accurate dosimetry and understanding of power absorption mechanisms to anticipate the massive deployment of 5G networks. This NEAR 5G project will address the open challenges related to the near-field dosimetry in V band (50–75 GHz).
